From various parts of the world, human rights violations including censorship, discrimination, arbitrary detention, xenophobia during coronavirus outbreak were reported.
The World Health Organization's statement about the stay-at-home measures in order to slow down the pandemic is that they must not be done at the expense of human rights related to COVID-19.
There have been reports found that include experience in social stigma after recovering from the COVID-19. In fact, not only the general public who recovered from the disease have reported this stigma but also some social health workers that were caring for the Corona positive patients have reported mental health difficulties. It is due to the fear of being stigmatized by their family and community.
Are there any human rights during this pandemic coronavirus situation?
In India, as per the sources, Human Rights Watch (HRW) has been urging police forces to act with restraining while maintaining law and order during the coronavirus lockdown.
The lockdown situation due to the Corona outbreak has created the worst situations ever. Millions of people are struggling to search for food and water, in fact, they have no income source left during the Corona pandemic.
Therefore, it seems like, for such people state machinery has become a larger threat than the COVID-19 disease.
Human Rights bodies are asking the government to replace brute measures with people-friendly measures in battling the pandemic.
